83rd Annual Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic
The Belize Bank Limited was a major sponsor of this past weekend’s 83rd Annual Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic which took place on April 23rd, 2011. Some 133 riders participated in the country’s biggest one-day sporting event.
The race began promptly at 6:00 am from the Old August Meat Shop at Mile 1 on the Western Highway and the riders traveled the entire length of the Western Highway to Columbus Park in San Ignacio Town and back to Belize City where the race ended at the Memorial Park on Marine Parade.
Guatemalan rider Luis Alberto Santizo who rides for Sugar City Starz of Orange Walk Town was the first rider to cross the finish line with a time of 6:08:10. Santizo was followed by his countryman Carlos Gabriel Hernandez riding with the Guatemalan National Selection Team with a time of 6:08:47.

The first Belizean to cross the finish line was Shane Vasquez of Team Western Spirit/Galen Eagles, finishing in third place with a time of 6:09:00. Shane Vasquez was the last Belizean to win the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Class back in 2006.

Of the riders who lined up for this years race, only 53 finished the journey from Belize City to San Ignacio and back within the 45-minute time limit after the champion, and 6 of those were disqualified, leaving just 47 official finishers.
The Belize Bank Limited takes this opportunity to congratulate the winners as well as all the riders in this years Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic.
